February Monthly Maintenance: Mid Winter Check In
By February, winter is usually settled in. This year definitely isn’t typical, and it seems like we may be skipping most of the harsh cold and snow this season, but it’s still a good time for a mid winter check in around the house. These are not big projects, just a few small things that help keep your home running efficiently and help you spot potential issues before spring arrives.
One easy but often forgotten task is vacuuming refrigerator coils. Dust and buildup can make your refrigerator work harder than it needs to, and a quick cleaning can help it run more efficiently. While you’re thinking about airflow and appliances, it’s also a great time to clean kitchen and bathroom exhaust fans. This helps improve air circulation and manage moisture during the winter months when windows stay closed more often.
Next, take a quick look in the basement and around the sump pump for any signs of dampness or moisture. Catching small water issues early can help prevent bigger problems later, especially as we move closer to spring.
Finally, take a look along the roofline for icicles or signs of ice dams. Even in a mild winter, it’s still helpful to keep an eye on how snow and melting water are moving off the roof.
