March Monthly Maintenance: Early Spring Prep

Sara Ballard

March is where things start to shift. Even if the weather is still a little unpredictable, it’s a good time to start thinking ahead and getting your home ready for the spring season. This month is all about checking for any wear and tear from winter and getting a few key systems cleaned up and ready for warmer days.

As things begin to thaw, it’s a good idea to take a look at your gutters and downspouts and make sure everything is clear and draining properly. Winter can be tough on your roof as well, so doing a quick visual check for any signs of damage now can help you stay ahead of potential issues. March is also a great time to think through a severe weather plan and make sure you have a safe place identified if needed.

On the inside, a little maintenance goes a long way this time of year. Cleaning your dryer vent helps with both efficiency and safety, and if it’s been a while, it may be worth considering a full air duct cleaning as well. This is also the perfect time to give your floors a reset. After a full winter of salt, dirt, and everyday wear, a deep clean or carpet shampoo can make your home feel noticeably fresher heading into spring.

Taking care of a few of these items now can make the transition into spring feel a lot smoother and help you stay ahead of larger projects as the seasons change.
